UV Top Coat

UV Top Coat: protection and gloss for metallized parts

The UV Top Coat is the final layer applied over the metallized part. It protects the metallization, an extremely thin film, against scratches, wear and chemical agents, and delivers the mirror finish. A flexible version is also available for TPU parts.

In practiceAfter the metallizing chamber, the Top Coat is spray-applied and UV-cured in seconds. The part comes out ready for assembly, with stable gloss and resistance to handling.
Recommended solventThis product is always recommended with a solvent formulation developed by Corquímica, to best deliver the expected result. View solvents.

Frequently asked questions

UV Top Coat: common questions

uv top coattop coat for metallizationscratch-resistant uv coating
What is a UV top coat used for?

It protects the vacuum metallization and provides a gloss or matte finish with scratch resistance.

Can I metallize without a top coat?

It is not recommended. The metallization is a very thin film and is damaged by handling. The Top Coat prevents scratches, stains and loss of gloss.

Which solvent should I use with the UV Top Coat?

Corquímica always recommends a solvent formulation developed in-house for the Top Coat, to best deliver the result the customer expects. Tell us about your process and the team will recommend the solvent.

Can the top coat be tinted?

Yes. With UV colorants the top coat can be tinted to achieve gold, bronze, blue and other colors over the metallized base.

Is the top coat suitable for automotive parts?

It is suitable for the finishing and cosmetic protection of parts and accessories. Exterior performance depends on testing for each project.

What is the difference between a UV top coat and a PU coating?

UV cures in seconds under ultraviolet radiation, with no long oven bake. PU cures by chemical or thermal reaction and usually takes longer. The choice depends on the part and the line.

Is there a top coat for TPU?

Yes. For flexible TPU parts, Corquímica recommends the flexible system: the Base Flex plus a compatible top coat. The combination is validated by testing on the part.
